I just bought an iPad Air 2024 (11 inch) and have been struggling to find a case for it. Does anyone recommend a store? Bic Camera and Yodobashi have been a bust so far.

I didn't realise that the new iPad is 11 inches vs the 10.9 inches of the previous model. So buying a case has been a bit tricky especially as the iPad only came out a week or two ago (which I was ignorant of until I tried to get a case for it).

I would just buy a smart folio and call it a day, but I also bought an Apple Pencil and need a slot or at least a loop of fabric to contain it.

Not sure if anyone knows a specialty store but would really appreciate your recommendations. I'm in Sakura so ideally recs from Chiba or western Tokyo would be best.

Cheers

For a pencil loop specifically, the Aeon Mall in Tsukuba has a small Elecom and Anker kiosk on the second floor that stocks niche accessories the big chains skip. It's a hike from Sakura but the Tsukuba Express makes it about an hour and parking is free, plus there's a Nojima next door if the kiosk is out. Another underrated option is the Apple Authorized reseller on the 4th floor of Sogo in Chiba station, they carry Moshi and Laut cases with the side pencil slot and the staff actually know the 2024 refresh. If neither pans out, ordering direct from ESR's Japan site beats Amazon JP on price and ships in three days.

Yodobashi in Akihabara actually keeps a decent Elecom assortment on the accessory floor, but the staff rarely point you to it unless you ask for the iPad Air 11 by its exact model number. For your situation I'd make the trip to the Yodobashi in Ueno instead, it's a shorter ride from Sakura on the Keisei line and the accessory section there is less picked over than Akiba. Ask specifically for the Elecom "Magnetic Folio with Pencil Holder" line, they stock a version sized for the 10.9 that snaps onto the 2024 fine because the magnet ring is identical.

If you're in Sakura, skip the big chains and head to a Joshin in Funabashi or Kashiwa. They carry a lot of third party stuff (Elecom, Buffalo) that Bic and Yodobashi don't stock in store, and the staff will actually dig through boxes for you. For a pencil loop specifically, look for cases branded for the older 10.9 Air with the side cutout, ESR and Torras both make ones that fit the 2024 since the magnet layout barely changed. Worst case order from Amazon JP and ship to a konbini, takes two days.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
