Hi all, I recently moved to Tokyo and am going to host a few friends this weekend who would be here for work. I am looking for some some Bar and Dine recommendations to chill over the weekend.

I saw that Tokyo does not have the Singapore Chain Harry's which me and my friends used to love. The closest to my liking was Rigoletto and TY Harbor but both have very few vegetarian options. I would really appreciate if you could recommend places similar vibe that either have decent vegetarian options or can customize dishes.

honestly skip the fancy places for a night and try Ain Soph in Ginza, they do a full vegetarian menu and the vibe is cozy bar-adjacent with drinks. not exactly a rooftop scene but the food is way better than most places that just slap a veggie option on the menu. if your friends are chill with a short walk, theres a tiny spot called T's TanTan in Ueno station that does vegan ramen and they have beer, super casual and cheap for Tokyo standards, like under 1500 yen for a full meal and drink. for that bar-and-dine hangout feel, i'd hit up The Burger Bar in Shibuya, theyll customize any burger to veggie patty and the fries are legit, plus the drinks are strong and not overpriced like some of the hotel bars

imo you're overthinking this a bit. a lot of the smaller izakayas in Shimokitazawa will work with you if you just ask, theyre used to dietary stuff these days. try Kiiroi Ume in Yoyogi, it's a tiny natural wine bar with a rotating menu and the owner's partner is vegetarian so she always has a couple solid veggie plates on hand. not a chain vibe but way more authentic than the bigger spots.

for that casual bar-and-dine thing, check out Fuglen in Tomigaya. they do natural wine and coffee, the food menu is small but they'll swap out meat for tofu or extra veg if you ask politely. the outdoor seating is great for hanging with friends and its way less touristy than the places near Shibuya crossing. just get there before 7pm or you'll be waiting.

You should check out the bar at the top of the Cerulean Tower in Shibuya. It's not super obvious but they have a separate vegetarian menu and the view is killer, way better than TY Harbor. Your friends can order whatever they want and you get proper veggie options without anyone feeling like they're compromising.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
