Hello! Just as the title question says, I'm looking for a place to buy a suit. I'd welcome suggestions for both shops and general areas - thank you!

Edit: I will be using the suit as a wedding guest, so formal but not super formal! No time for tailoring, sadly, and I am not fussy about brands, as long as it's good quality! My budget is flexible - I'm willing to pay up to ¥100,000 (though hopefully much less!) if it's worth it!

for ¥100k you can actually get a decent made-to-measure at places like suzutaya in ueno or the ginza branch of aoyama tailor if you had time, but since you don't, head to takashimaya in nihonbashi or isetan in shinjuku. the in-house brands on the 3rd or 4th floor (like "global work" or "united arrows") usually have good wool blends for around ¥30-50k that don't look cheap. just skip the touristy "suit select" places in asakusa, the fabric feels thin and the cut is boxy

Skip the department stores for a minute and check out the "second life" shops in Shimokitazawa. Places like Chicago or Flamingo have a curated rack of vintage suits, often from Japanese brands like Ring Jacket or even some imported Italian wool, for around ¥15-30k. You can find a solid navy or charcoal in good condition if you're willing to spend an hour digging, and the cuts from the 90s and early 2000s are usually more classic and less boxy than the cheap new stuff. Just make sure the shoulders fit and plan to hit a nearby dry cleaner for a quick press.

honestly for a wedding guest suit at that budget you're fine hitting up the shibuya or shinjuku loft stores. they have a "suit style" section on the 3rd floor usually with decent japanese brands like "nano universe" or "beams" that run around ¥25-45k. the cuts are slim but not overly trendy so they work for a formal event. just check the fabric label for polyester blends, the 100% wool ones are worth the extra ¥5k or so.

if you want something a bit more unique without the mall vibe, try the "suit shop" in kichijoji near the station. it's a small chain called "the suit company" and they have a solid selection of charcoal and navy options at ¥30-50k. the staff there speak some english and can help with basic adjustments like hemming if you ask, but for a full tailoring you'd need a few days. the quality is noticeably better than the fast fashion stuff you see in ueno.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
