Any video game arcades left in Akihabara?

However, I was surprised when I visited a Namco arcade in Fukuoka to find it had a lot more claw machines than arcade cabinets, and most of those were rhythm games or complex strategy titles that (understandably) had no English instructions.

Are there any "proper" arcades left in Akihabara? I'm talking classics such as Time Crisis, Tekken 3, Sega Rally etc. or earlier. I'm not fussy and I'll certainly take in all the culture and broaden my horizons, but I would love to scratch that 90s/00s nostalgia itch!

Thanks in advance :)

hey, you'll find what you're looking for. the classics scene is still alive if you know where to look. head to the basement of the radio kaikan building, there's a spot called mikado that's legendary for older fighting games and shmups. it's smaller and more of a locals place but the cabs are well maintained. also club sega in akihabara still has a few retro floors mixed in with the newer stuff, just take the stairs past the ufo catchers. if you want time crisis specifically, the taito station on chuo-dori has a time crisis 5 setup that's surprisingly good for a modern version

yeah there's still a few good ones. try the Taito Game Station near the station, they have a whole floor of classic fighting games and shooters. also check out Hey in Akihabara, it's tucked away but has tons of older cabinets like Tekken and Time Crisis. just heads up, a lot of em have been converted to crane games on the lower floors but the upper floors usually keep the real arcade stuff

You'll definitely find what you're after. Check out the Super Potato building on the main street - it's got like five floors of retro stuff, and the top floors are packed with older cabinets from the 90s. Just be ready for tight spaces and a lot of stairs, that's part of the charm.

Best aquarium in Tokyo 2026: Ocean Center worth it?

Any recs for a clinic near Shinagawa that takes national health insurance, and what a walk-in visit usually runs? Also, is the aquarium actually worth the ticket price in 2026 or should we just do Sunshine Aquarium instead?

Sunshine Aquarium is the better rainy-day pick with kids, and Maxell Aqua Park handles strollers easier than Ocean Center's ramps.

yeah the ramps there are rough with a stroller

For the back, try a seikotsuin instead of a clinic, they take insurance and walk-ins run about 1,500 yen.

Ocean Center's penguin and jellyfish halls justify the price, but weekend seikotsuin slots fill fast so call ahead.
