Is it just me or is the Train moaning?

At first time I thought someone is just watching some corn, but it happened thrice now with the exact same moaning sound. At first time I thought someone is just watching some corn, but it happened thrice now with the exact same moaning sound.

fwiw i think it's the door chime on the newer e231 trains too but specifically on the chuo line local. those ones have a weird descending tone right before the doors shut that sounds exactly like someone groaning. i live near nakano and hear it every morning, still gets me sometimes

honestly it took me like 3 months to realize it wasnt someone in the next car. it's the traction motor whine on the e235 series trains, specifically when they switch from regenerative to air brakes. you'll hear it most at shinjuku or tokyo station where they hold at the platform for a while. once you know what it is it's kinda satisfying in a weird way

yeah nah you're not crazy, it's def the train itself. the toei shinjuku line has this weird one too, sounds almost like a low hum that pitches up and down. first time i heard it i looked around like "who's phone is that" but nah it's just the braking system

if you're on the marunouchi line around shinjuku-sanchome you'll hear it the most, they got those older trains that haven't been updated yet. the sound is basically the traction motors releasing tension when the driver lets off the throttle. once you notice it you'll hear it everywhere, it's kinda like the train equivalent of a sigh

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
