Best gastroenterologist in Tokyo?

Long story short: I have a very peculiar stomach condition that out of 10 different gastroenterologists none of which was capable yet to tell me what's going on.. Now that I live here, I am kindly asking if you have anybody you'd recommend me to try.

I need a real professional that loves his profession.. Or he'll just give up as all the others did before.

Thank you!

(any area of Tokyo is fine)

honestly, if you've been through 10 doctors already, you need someone who thinks outside the box, not just another scope jockey. have you tried the gastroenterology dept at St. Luke's International Hospital in Tsukiji? it's a bit of a maze to find, but they're known for taking on chronic, undiagnosed cases and they do a lot of cross-specialty stuff with immunology and neurology, which matters if your gut issues might be connected to something else. they're also used to foreign patients, so the language barrier is less of a pain. bring every scan and blood test you have, even the ones you think are useless, and ask for a doctor who does motility testing, like a gastric emptying study or anorectal manometry. most GIs skip that stuff, but weird symptoms that don't show up on endoscopy often come down to a motility problem. if they don't offer that, walk out. also, don't sleep on the idea of seeing a rheumatologist or an allergist on the side, sometimes the gut is just the messenger.

You might have better luck at a university hospital than a private clinic for something this stubborn. I'd try the gastroenterology department at Keio University Hospital in Shinjuku or Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Bunkyo. They see the weird cases that nobody at the local clinic can figure out, and they have the imaging and pathology labs on site to actually dig into it.

The catch is they're not the easiest to get into without a referral, so you'll need to bring your past records and maybe ask your current GP to write a 紹介状. Once you're in, the doctors there tend to be research-oriented and won't just shrug you off, they'll run you through a proper workup over multiple visits. I'd specifically ask for a doctor who does small bowel endoscopy, like a capsule or balloon enteroscopy, since that's where most "mystery" GI issues hide.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
