Hello everyone!

We will be taking Odoriko line to go to Izu Peninsula. We will have to transfer to one line to the Odoriko and we have multiple choices of station to do so:

Shinagawa

Yokohama

Ofuna

Which one would be the easier to transfer through (less crowded, smaller station)?

Thanks!

honestly, ofuna is prob your best bet if you want to avoid the chaos of shinagawa or yokohama. its a smaller station so the transfer is pretty straightforward, same platform most of the time for the odorko. yokohama can be a bit of a maze with all the lines running through there, shinagawa is just busy all day. just check the platform signs at ofuna, the odorko usually departs from track 3 or 4 in the afternoon

depends where you're coming from honestly. if you're starting at tokyo station shinagawa is just one stop away and the transfer is on the same level for most odoriko services, just walk from the tokaido platform to the adjacent one. the crowds are real but it's a quick in and out if you know which car to aim for. ofuna is easier physically but you'll be standing if you board there, the train fills up fast after yokohama

ngl ofuna is the way to go if you want simple. the platforms are right there and you wont be fighting through crowds like at shinagawa where its a constant flow of commuters. yokohama is fine but the station is huge and you gotta walk a bit more through the underground passages which can get confusing if its your first time. ofuna also has a decent little ekiben shop if you want to grab something for the ride down to izu

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
