Which HARD OFF stores in Tokyo sell used vinyl records?

Hey,

I found some amazing records when visiting HARD OFF in Miyazaki, any idea which of the stores in the Tokyo area sell used vinyl?

if you're out west, the hard off in kunitachi is solid and way less crowded than machida or tachikawa. it's a 5 min walk from the south exit and they usually have a bin of 100 yen records near the register that's worth digging through. also the book off super bazaar in oizumi-gakuen has a small but decent vinyl section and the prices are fair, i grabbed a mint copy of a yuming album there for 400 yen last month

Most HARD OFF locations in Tokyo do carry vinyl, but it's really hit or miss depending on the store. The bigger ones like the HARD OFF in Machida or the one near Tachikawa Station tend to have a better selection since they get more trade-ins. I'd skip the smaller shops in central Tokyo like Shinjuku or Shibuya, those usually have slim pickings and higher prices. If you're willing to take a short train ride, the HARD OFF in Hachioji is worth a look, they sometimes have a whole shelf of 70s and 80s Japanese rock.

honestly the machida hard off is probably your best bet, it's a huge store and they have a dedicated vinyl section in the back that's usually pretty well stocked. i've found some decent japanese pressings of western stuff there for like 300-500 yen each, which is way cheaper than the touristy shops in shibuya. the one in tachikawa is solid too but it's a bit more picked over in my experience. if you're looking for more obscure stuff like enka or kayokyoku, check the book off in futako-tamagawa, they sometimes have boxes of old records mixed in with the books that no one bothers to sort through

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
