Is this a picture sub?

Either they just travelled to Japan, just love photography in general or whatever. The top 3 posts at the moment are pictures.

I blocked so many people doing that, thinking it was just a few people getting confused, but that keeps happening.

So am I the one confused and on the wrong sub?

It's not just you, the sub has been a photo dump for years now. The mods are basically absent, so there's no filtering. If you want actual Tokyo discussion, try the local subreddits for specific neighborhoods like /r/okayama or /r/kichijoji, those are smaller but way more active with real residents talking about daily life. You'll see more posts about where to fix a bicycle tire or which sento has the best sauna than another shot of the Rainbow Bridge.

You're not wrong, it's basically become a photo gallery at this point. The mods have never really enforced the "for residents" rule, so tourists and new arrivals just dump their best Shibuya crossing shots here. If you want actual discussion, try sorting by "new" and you'll occasionally find someone asking about broken bike disposal or which ward office is fastest for residency paperwork.

ngl i feel u, it's been like this for a while. the mods are pretty hands-off about it, they just let people post whatever as long as it's vaguely tokyo-related. i think the actual sub description says "for tokyo residents" but nobody reads that. if u want actual neighborhood talk or asking where to find a specific used camera shop in nakano, u kinda gotta scroll past all the skyline shots from the metropolitan building

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
