It's impossible to get a booking at this place and I have stalked their website for weeks so I don't miss out lmao. But I need a friend (obviously pay for yourself) and if I don't get a friend they'll charge me for a missing person 😭

But it'll be more fun with company than solo anyways! Hit me up, the table is booked and if you're free, come join me please! 😄

ah man swallowtail is a solid pick for the maid cafe experience, their omurice with the cat face is honestly cute af. i'd join u but i'm tied up that evening, tho i will say the set menu with the strawberry parfait is worth it if they still have it, like 2800 yen for the full experience.

if u end up going solo after all, the staff are super nice about taking pics with u so it's not awkward. just don't forget they add a cover charge and service fee to the bill, caught me off guard my first time there

ayo i've been to swallowtail a few times, if u get the afternoon tea set it's like 3500 yen and comes with like 5 different sweets and a drink, way better value than the standard set imo. the harajuku location is a bit of a walk from the station but there's that big sanrio store nearby if u wanna kill time before. their strawberry shortcake is the best thing on the menu, no contest

ngl if you can't find anyone the solo experience there is still pretty chill, the waitresses are used to it and will chat with you during the set

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
