looked into it before my last trip, its basically an excavation site not a visitor attraction so check with 大阪府教育委員会 before making the trek out

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Second this, 大阪府教育委員会 is teh right call.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

their office is in 大阪市中央区, not near the site

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah 島田遺跡 sits near 東淀川 in a residential pocket, so honestly the 大阪府教育委員会 check is the whole trip

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

makes sense, though last i checked the site itself was mostly fenced off so the check might be all u get

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

agreed on the residential pocket part, but id double check its even 東淀川, i think it might be a bit further out

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Fair point, though the 大阪府教育委員会 is really just a records office. Might be simpler to google it on the day.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

true, mostly fenced off so plan around it

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Worth adding that the site sits in a residential pocket near 東淀川, so even a confirmed visit is a quick look rather than a proper outing.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

checking with them first is smart but dont expect much, i think its mostly fenced off and the records are the only real thing to see.

Is Shimada Ruins worth visiting in 2026?

Is it open to the public and easy to reach by public transport, or is it more of a research site? Any idea what the hours and entry cost look like?
arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

the shimada ruins are in fujiidera, not osaka city

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Fair point, it's in Fujiidera, roughly 20 minutes from Tennoji on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka line, though the excavated area itself is small and mostly fenced off.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Second this. The fenced part is basically it.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

agreed, bring bug spray in summer

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

small site, maybe 20 min to walk through

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah true, technically a different city. still counts as osaka area for most trip planning tho. trains from abeno should get u there quick.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

abeno is the right station but the ruins are a short walk from fujiidera station itself so dont overshoot

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Different prefecture actually, Osaka-fu not Osaka-shi

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Good catch on the city line, though prefecture boundaries trip people up too. Either way it's a quick hop from central Osaka, so the distinction barely matters for a day trip.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

honestly if u want archaeology in that area, the Fujiidera museum nearby has the actual artifacts from the site, way more interesting than staring at a fenced field. entry there is cheap, like a couple hundred yen. the ruins themselves are basically a grassy lot with signs. i'd skip unless ur really into Jomon period stuff
