Is Shimada Ruins area ok to walk at night in Osaka 2026?
shimada ruins is out in higashisumiyoshi, pretty sleepy residential. i'd stick to the bigger streets like tanabe and the walk from tsukamoto or shimada station rather than cutting through the blocks. 9 or 10pm is fine, just a quiet suburb so not much open
yeah agreed, though the Abiko area toward the station gets a bit more foot traffic if you want shops open past 8.
that whole stretch is dead by 10pm though
the station closest is actually harinakano on the tanimachi line, not tsukamoto (thats hanshin up in yodogawa). higashisumiyoshi-ku is genuinely one of the quieter wards so late walks are calm, just dark side streets with few streetlights.
Tanabe-dori itself is well lit, but the side streets off it toward the ruins go pitch black after 8, so bring a phone light.
fair point but tsukamoto is hanshin up in yodogawa, you're thinking of tsukamoto station vs harinakano on tanimachi line
Harukano's the useful one there, but the last trains go before midnight so plan around that.
worth adding the tanimachi line last train from harinakano toward mino is around 11:45 but the other direction cuts earlier, so check ur specific direction on a weekday vs weekend. also the buses out there stop way before that so its train or a taxi
Close to the Abiko end it livens up a bit past 10.
honestly most places round there shut by 10 so bring snacks if u get hungry lol
Kuzunoki tree in Kozushima: is the donation request a scam?
probably not a custom, receipts or bust
yeah receipts are standard for any legit shrine or town collection, so cash in hand with no paper is a red flag.
agreed, cash with no paper is sketchy. fwiw legit shrine donations usually come with at least a stamp or a little paper slip. id just walk away tbh.
same, esp for a tree with no shrine office nearby
true, no paper no money. though some small local kolekta might just have a box to drop coins in, not a person asking
Right, but a legit collection usually has a sealed box with a slot, not a person palming cash. The tree by the shrine there has an offering box, so anyone intercepting you before it is the tell. Walk to the box instead.
Saizen-in, the box sits past the torii.
just past the torii, not before it
that holds up, but a real collection for a tree like that usually runs through the shrine or town office, not some guy standing out front. if there's no box and no paper trail, keep walking
the no-receipt thing is the tell but most legit tree funds here go through a town office or shrine, not a guy
