Kagoshima neighborhoods for a 5-month stay?

Headed to Kagoshima in about 5 months and trying to figure out which area to live in. Any recommendations on neighborhoods that are convenient and have good vibes? i'd throw Kamoike into the mix if you want something more residential but still convenient. it's got the big park and the aquarium right there, plus a decent little shopping center with a grocery store. the tram doesn't go through it but the bus runs pretty frequently into tenmonkan, maybe 15 minutes tops. rent's usually cheaper and you get that bay view if you're lucky.

If you want something with a bit more local character and less tourist buzz, check out the area around Izuro-dori. It's a shotengai (covered shopping street) that feels lived-in and has a good mix of old-school greengrocers, secondhand shops, and cheap eateries. Rent is noticeably lower than Tenmonkan, and you're still a short tram ride from the station or downtown. The only catch is it's a bit dead after 8pm, so if you need late-night convenience stores and nightlife, this isn't it.

honestly i'd look at the area around Tenmonkan, it's the main downtown strip and super walkable. you've got the tram line running right through it plus all the izakayas and shops within a few minutes walk. only downside is it can get a bit loud at night if you're near the main drag, but the side streets are pretty quiet

another option is Uearoncho, it's a bit quieter but still close to the station and the waterfront. cheaper rent than Tenmonkan too from what I've seen. plus you're right by the ferry terminal if you wanna pop over to Sakurajima for a day

if you're working or studying near the university, the Gofukumachi area is solid. it's a bit further from the action but has its own little strip of cafes and restaurants, and the tram connects you to downtown in like 10 mins
