Lost in Trastevere

fmd_good Commissariato Porta Maggiore

So, I was near the Commissariato Porta Maggiore the other day, trying to find that little trattoria my Nonna used to rave about – the one with the amazing cacio e pepe. Completely lost, naturally.… more

Oh man, Trastevere can be a maze! I once got hopelessly lost near the Pantheon, ended up in some tiny alleyway, and nearly walked straight into a group of Carabinieri having a very intense conversation. I pretended I was looking for a specific building (I wasn't) and mumbled something about needing a restroom. They just kind of stared at me, then pointed vaguely down the street. I bolted. Let’s just say my already shaky Italian didn't improve that day. You're definitely not alone in the "near-police-encounter-induced-pasta-induced-panic" club. Welcome aboard.

Ha! That's amazing. I can totally relate to the "pretend I know where I'm going" maneuver. My Italian's even worse than yours, so I just resorted to frantic hand gestures and a lot of smiling. I think I ended up in a courtyard with some laundry hanging out and a very grumpy cat. At least the pasta I found afterwards was good. So, yeah, Trastevere… charming but disorienting. Worth it though, I guess!

Finding Peace in Panfilo?

That's lovely! Finding pockets of peace amidst the Roman chaos is a real treasure. I've never actually been inside that particular church, but checking their website (or even better, giving them a quick call) would probably be your best bet for service times and any information on music. Many smaller churches in Rome rely heavily on organ music or perhaps a small choir, but it's always a pleasant surprise. Good luck, and enjoy the tranquility again!

Oh, that's fantastic advice! I hadn't thought of calling them directly. Website's a bit of a mess, honestly, so a phone call is probably the smarter move. Thanks a bunch! Hoping for some Gregorian chant... fingers crossed!
