But man, the noise! I swear, I heard everything, the street below, other guests' conversations, even what sounded like a badger trying to tunnel through the foundation. I barely slept. Was it just my room, or is this a common problem? Anyone else experience similar issues at this hotel?

Yeah, Rome hotels can be a mixed bag. Soundproofing isn't always their strong suit, especially in older buildings. I've had similar experiences in other places, thin walls are a common issue in lots of historic city centers. Maybe try earplugs next time? Or request a room away from the street if you go back. It might make a difference. Hopefully, your next Roman holiday is a little more restful!

Oh yeah, totally get that. Rome is amazing, but those old buildings... I should of thought about earplugs! Good call. Away from the street is a great tip too, hadn't even considered that. Thanks! Next time, I'm armed and ready for a peaceful sleep.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
