I've read about its incredible history, but I'm obsessed with old frescoes. Does anyone know if there are any hidden, lesser-known frescoes within the school, maybe tucked away in a forgotten corridor or something? I'm hoping to stumble upon some truly breathtaking, undiscovered artwork. It's a long shot, I know... but a guy can dream, right?!

ngl you're better off hunting in santa maria della concezione dei cappuccini near via veneto. the crypt there has these wild frescoes made of bones and skulls that most people just snap a photo of and walk past without really looking. for the scuola itself, check the sacristy if they let you in - there's a faded fresco cycle by a student of raphael that's not mentioned in any guidebook, just kinda sitting there behind the vestments

honestly the scuola itself is more about the architecture and the oratory than hidden frescoes you can just wander into. the main altarpiece by domenico fontana is worth a look but it's not a secret. if you want real undiscovered frescoes in rome, skip the school and head to san clemente instead - the lower church has layers of frescoes from the 4th century that most tourists walk right past. or try santa prassede's saint zeno chapel, the mosaics are stunning and it's usually empty

You might have better luck at Palazzo Barberini, not the school itself. There's a lesser-known room called the Sala degli Arazzi with frescoed ceilings that people often breeze past on their way to the big Caravaggio. If you're set on something more obscure, the Oratory of San Lorenzo in Miranda tucked inside the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina has some faded 17th-century frescoes that get zero attention. The school's interior is mostly restored and cleaned up, so the "forgotten corridor" vibe isn't really there.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
