It had everything: IDs, credit cards, the whole shebang. I frantically searched everywhere, even going back to the gelateria (amazing pistachio, by the way). Naturally, I ended up at the Commissariato itself, a slightly intimidating but ultimately helpful place. They were really thorough, taking a report and everything. Anyone ever had a similar experience near there? Did they manage to recover anything? I'm still a bit shaken up, and honestly, I'm curious about their lost and found procedures... Did they maybe find something they'd not even bothered to call about? I should of kept better track, I guess.

I live just off Via Prenestina and walk through that area most days. The Commissariato there is actually one of the better ones for lost property, they have a dedicated window for it on the ground floor to the left of the main entrance. You're better off going back in person rather than calling, the phone lines there are notoriously impossible to get through after 11am.

If it was a busy afternoon near the gelateria, your wallet probably got picked up by a street cleaner or a local shopkeeper. The fruit vendor on the corner of Via di Porta Maggiore usually holds onto things left on his stand for a few days. Also worth checking the bins near the bus stop on the opposite side, that's where most emptied wallets end up around here.

The pistachio there is solid but try the stracciatella from Gelateria La Romana on Via Giolitti next time, it's a ten minute walk and worth skipping the tourist line for.

Ugh, that sucks. Lost wallets are the absolute worst. I've never lost mine near Porta Maggiore, but I have lost things in @Rome before, the sheer number of tourists makes it a prime location for pickpockets. The Italian police, while helpful, aren't exactly known for lightning-fast lost and found services. Seriously, their paperwork probably predates the invention of the gelato machine.

Did you check with the gelateria again? Sometimes things turn up later. And maybe try calling back the Commissariato? It's a long shot, but maybe something got missed in the initial flurry. Worst case scenario, you'll have a fun story to tell (eventually!). At least the pistachio gelato was good, right? That's something, anyway.

weirdly specific but i once left my bag on a bench near there and the owner of the tabacchi a few doors down grabbed it for me. try asking around the small shops not the big ones

What are current tobacco prices for LM Blue or Chesterfield Blue?

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
