That's a great suggestion! I hadn't considered the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano. Mosaics are definitely my thing, so that sounds perfect. Maybe the "secret" courtyard is just a really good rumour, or maybe it's so well hidden it is actually secret! Thanks for the tip – I'll definitely check out the Basilica first.
