LUISS's Secret Societies?

Heard whispers of secret societies, the kind that pull strings, influence policy, maybe even control the espresso machines in the cafeteria. Anyone know the real story? Is this just campus legend, or is there some serious cloak-and-dagger stuff going on? I'm already picturing myself in a dimly lit room, decoding cryptic messages written in latte foam...

Worth knowing that LUISS has two distinct campuses and the social scene splits along that line. The Viale Pola side is where the older Giurisprudenza and Scienze Politiche crowd clusters, while Viale Romania is more Economics and Management, and the two don't mix as much as you'd expect. If there's any "insider" dynamic, it's that divide plus the commute factor: fuorisede from the residenze tend to bond hard because they're stuck together on weekends, while Romans vanish to their own neighborhoods after class. My take is you get more traction joining a squadra for the LUISS Rugby or the debate team than chasing rumors, since those groups actually travel together and meet alumni.

the closest thing to a secret society at LUISS is probably the small circles that form around certain professors in the Giurisprudenza building. get into a good rapporto with someone who does consulenza for a ministry and doors open, no handshake ritual needed. also a lot of the real influence runs through the collegi, the student residences, since thats where people actually build the networks that last past graduation. so if u want in, pick your housing carefully, not your decoder ring.

honestly the "secret society" thing at LUISS is mostly just the normal Italian networking stuff dressed up. what actually matters is which student associations you join, like Aiesec or JEME, and whether you get into the Erasmus bubble or the fuorisede crowd. the real string-pulling happens at aperitivo on Via di Villa Emiliani or at the bar near Viale Romania, not in some basement. i'd worry less about latte foam codes and more about which professor writes your recommendation letter.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
