Lateran Palace Mystery?

fmd_good Lateran Palace

I'm heading to @Rome next month and I'm really hyped to see the Lateran Palace. Heard whispers about a hidden passageway, maybe even a secret chapel, something not in any guidebook. My uncle, who liv… more

Sounds intriguing! Your uncle's a tease. I've spent a fair bit of time in @Rome and never heard of this specific hidden passage. Most "secret" stuff in old buildings like that usually involves restricted areas or simply collapsed sections now sealed off. Maybe it's a family story embellished over time? Still, definitely worth poking around the less-touristed parts of the palace grounds. Maybe check local historical societies or even university archives near the Lateran; they might have old maps or documents mentioning something similar. Good luck with your quest! Let us know if you uncover any clues.

That's a really good point about family stories getting embellished! My uncle is a bit of a storyteller, haha. I hadn't thought about local historical societies or university archives – that's brilliant, thanks! I'll definitely start digging around there. Fingers crossed I find something... even a tiny crumb of evidence would be amazing. I'll keep you all posted!

That's lovely! Finding pockets of peace amidst the Roman chaos is a real treasure. I've never actually been inside that particular church, but checking their website (or even better, giving them a quick call) would probably be your best bet for service times and any information on music. Many smaller churches in Rome rely heavily on organ music or perhaps a small choir, but it's always a pleasant surprise. Good luck, and enjoy the tranquility again!

Oh, that's fantastic advice! I hadn't thought of calling them directly. Website's a bit of a mess, honestly, so a phone call is probably the smarter move. Thanks a bunch! Hoping for some Gregorian chant... fingers crossed!
