Villa Borghese's Secret?

Found a charming little cafe tucked away near the lake, totally stumbled on it, no guidebook mentioned it. Anyway, my question is: are there any other similarly hidden gems, like secret pathways or overlooked viewpoints, within the park that aren't plastered all over TripAdvisor? I feel like I only scratched the surface!

the area around the fontana dei cavalli marini gets packed but if u walk up the hill behind the galleria borghese there's a little terrace most people miss, view over the pincio & domes is unreal at golden hour. also the giardino del lago has a clock house / water clock thing tucked in the trees near the boating lake, easy to walk right past it. bring cash for the little kiosks btw, some dont take card

if you go early morning on a sunday the whole park feels different, joggers and dog walkers only, no tour groups yet. my favorite overlooked spot is the area around Piazza di Siena heading toward the Galoppatoio, there's a path that drops down behind the Casina di Raffaello and you get this quiet stretch with umbrella pines and almost nobody. also check the Parco dei Daini section near Via Pinciana, it's technically part of the same green zone but most visitors never cross over there. the little bar near the Museo Pietro Canonica does a decent espresso for like 1.20 and the courtyard is basically empty midweek.

Honestly, Villa Borghese is HUGE. I've lived near it for years and still discover new bits. Try heading towards the northern edge, past the Bioparco. There are some less-trodden paths that wind through the woods, they're not exactly "secret," but you'll definitely see fewer people. And the views from that area overlooking the city are pretty spectacular. You might even find a quieter cafe up there, away from the main lake area. Just wear decent shoes; some of the trails are a bit rough.

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
