Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista's Secret?

Appare… I'm heading to Rome next month and staying near the Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista. I've heard whispers, legends, really, about a hidden courtyard or secret passageway within the school walls. Apparently, some old maps hint at it, but nothing's concrete. Anyone know anything about this? I've scoured online, but all I find are standard school history pages. Seriously hoping this isn't just a fanciful local myth... It'd be amazing to stumble upon some forgotten piece of Roman history.

That's a cool story! I've never heard of that specific rumor about the Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista, but Rome is full of hidden things. Seriously, you could spend a lifetime exploring and still uncover new stuff. Old maps are notoriously inaccurate or incomplete, too... so it might just be a legend. But hey, that doesn't mean there's nothing interesting near the school. Look into the surrounding neighborhood's history, maybe there are less well-known churches or palazzos with their own fascinating stories. Even seemingly unremarkable side streets can hold surprising secrets. Good luck on your hunt! Let us know if you find anything... I'm genuinely curious now.

Wow, you're right! I hadn't thought about looking into the neighborhood's history. That's a great idea. I figured it was probably just a legend, but the sheer possibility of something actually being there...it's kinda addictive, you know? I'll definitely delve into the local archives and see what I can dig up. Maybe some old property records or parish registers will mention something. Thanks for the tip! I'll post an update if I find anything juicy... fingers crossed!

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
