I've heard whispers of these incredible hidden artisan workshops tucked away in the smaller streets, not the touristy ones. Anyone know how to actually find them? Are there any specific neighbourhoods within San Giovanni itself that are particularly known for this kind of thing? I'd love to discover some genuinely unique Roman crafts, something beyond the usual souvenir shops. I'm prepared to get a little lost, even better if I can stumble across them organically. Really hoping to avoid the usual tourist traps...

Honestly, finding those hidden workshops is part of the fun! San Giovanni's charm lies in its maze-like streets. Forget detailed maps; just wander aimlessly, especially around the quieter areas near the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano. You'll probably stumble on some amazing little places that way. Don't be afraid to peek into alleyways, that's where the real treasures are hidden. Also, keep an eye out for tiny signs, maybe even handwritten ones, in Italian. Good luck, you're bound to find some cool stuff! And remember, getting delightfully lost is half the adventure in Rome.

That's great advice! I love the idea of just wandering and stumbling upon things. I'm not usually one for super-structured sightseeing, so that really appeals to me. I'll definitely try to get a little lost and see what I uncover. Thanks!

I have a layover in Riga before continuing my journey, and I'm wondering if it would be financially beneficial to purchase my tobacco there. Can anyone provide details on the prices?

tbh duty free at Riga is only worth it if you're buying cartons, single packs at the airport arent that much cheaper than teh tabaccai in Rome. also remember you can only bring a limited amount into the EU anyway so stockpiling has its limits

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chesterfield Blue usually runs around 5.50 to 6 euros a pack in Rome these days, though tabaccai prices are fixed by the state so it won't vary much shop to shop. Riga is generally cheaper for cigarettes but your layover time matters, if it's tight you might not have time to clear security and find a shop.

LM Blue in Rome is roughly the same ballpark, around 5.50 to 6 euros. One thing to keep in mind at Riga airport, the duty free selection isn't always great for specific brands like these, so if you're set on LM or Chesterfield you might strike out. I'd check what the actual duty free has before counting on it.
