Servian Wall Mystery

fmd_good Servian Wall

I’m heading to Rome next month and I'm super stoked to walk along the Servian Wall. I’ve read a ton about its history, but all the pictures show it pretty...ruined. My question is: are there any surp… more

Honestly, most of what remains is pretty fragmented. You'll find better preserved stretches in certain areas, but "well-preserved" is relative – think more "recognizable sections" than perfectly intact walls. Your best bet for quieter stretches is to head to the less-central portions, maybe near the Porta San Paolo area or exploring along the Aventine Hill side. Those sections tend to be less thronged with tourists. Don't expect hidden pathways though – it's pretty well-traveled territory, even if the bits you see are often less photographed than the main tourist draws. Checking out some local history books from a Rome library might unearth some less-known details about specific gates or sections, though. Good luck and enjoy the exploration!

That's lovely! Finding pockets of peace amidst the Roman chaos is a real treasure. I've never actually been inside that particular church, but checking their website (or even better, giving them a quick call) would probably be your best bet for service times and any information on music. Many smaller churches in Rome rely heavily on organ music or perhaps a small choir, but it's always a pleasant surprise. Good luck, and enjoy the tranquility again!

Oh, that's fantastic advice! I hadn't thought of calling them directly. Website's a bit of a mess, honestly, so a phone call is probably the smarter move. Thanks a bunch! Hoping for some Gregorian chant... fingers crossed!
