It's definitely not unusual. Sant'Agnese fuori le mura has this strange, almost ethereal quality. I've been several times at different hours, and while it's never crowded like the Pantheon, there's always a palpable sense of stillness. Maybe it's the location itself, out of the main tourist hustle. Or the sheer size of the place – it swallows the noise. You weren't lucky, you just experienced its quiet power. It's a place to feel small, and somehow, at peace.

That's a really cool experience! Finding pockets of quiet in a busy city like Rome is always a win. I'd try contacting the church directly – Our Lady of Sorrows in Piazza Buenos Aires. Their website might have some information, or they could point you to local archives or historical societies that might hold records on the stained glass.
