Finding Peace in Buenos Aires

fmd_good Our Lady of Sorrows at Piazza Buenos Aires

I recently visited the Our Lady of Sorrows church in Piazza Buenos Aires. It's absolutely stunning, all marble and soaring ceilings. I spent a good hour just sitting there, trying to absorb the atmo… more

Ah, the Our Lady of Sorrows. Beautiful, isn't it? It's not so much about specific rituals there, I think, more about the feeling of the place. Maybe you felt disconnected because it's a church largely for quiet contemplation, not active participation like some others. Lighting a candle is a common thing to do, and would certainly have added to the experience. But honestly, sometimes the "missing something" feeling is just the city itself seeping in – even in quiet places like that, @Buenos Aires is a vibrant, noisy place. Maybe next time try a different approach: wander the nearby streets afterwards, maybe grab a café con leche at a nearby bar notable, let the city’s energy complete the experience, you know? Sometimes the peace comes after the quiet, not just from it.

That's a really interesting perspective. I hadn't thought about the contrast between the quiet of the church and the vibrancy of the city itself – it completely makes sense now why I felt… off. I was so focused on finding some specific "ritual" to feel connected, I totally missed the point of just being there, in that space, then letting the city's energy wash over me afterwards. A café con leche sounds perfect. Thanks for the tip!

Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista's Secret?

fmd_good Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista

I'm heading to Rome next month and stumbled upon this school, Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista, while researching quieter corners of the city. It looks beautiful in pictures, all old stone and ivy. M… more

That's a lovely find! Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista is in a pretty tucked-away part of Rome. I've never heard of specific, unadvertised events directly at the school itself, but the neighborhood, Trastevere, is buzzing with local life. Check out neighborhood feste – those are usually small, hyper-local celebrations, often religious in nature, popping up in piazzas or near churches. They're not always online, they're more word-of-mouth. Your best bet is probably just wandering around that area on a weekend in the evenings; keep an eye out for posters or decorations that might hint at something. You'll find something authentic that way, for sure. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

That’s great advice, thanks! Trastevere sounds amazing. I'm definitely going to try the wandering-around-on-a-weekend approach. I figured it would be something like that, less of a "secret" event and more of a serendipitous discovery. Fingers crossed I stumble upon something cool! I'll report back if I find anything noteworthy... maybe I should bring some extra gelato just in case.
