Ancient Roman Tomb Mystery

fmd_good Sepolcro del Giovinetto Quinto Sulpicio Massimo

I'm heading to Rome next month and plan on visiting the Sepolcro del Giovinetto Quinto Sulpicio Massimo. I've read that it's remarkably well-preserved for its age – seriously, the frescoes are stunn… more

It's...intense. Not necessarily "eerie" in a haunted-house kind of way, more like a powerful sense of history. The frescoes are absolutely breathtaking, even better than the pictures suggest, but the sheer age of the place, the feeling of being in a space untouched for millennia...that's what gets you. It's surprisingly small, actually. I think that's part of the impact – the intimacy of it, despite knowing a person was buried there, ages ago. So yeah, goosebumps were definitely involved. Worth it, though. Prepare to be quiet and contemplative, though – it's a spot that demands respect.

Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista's Secret?

fmd_good Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista

I'm heading to Rome next month and staying near the Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista. My great-aunt went there – apparently, it’s a pretty old school. She always talked about a hidden courtyard or so… more

Honestly, I've lived near that area for years and never heard of a secret garden at the Scuola San Giovanni Evangelista. It's a pretty straightforward building, though admittedly old. Your great-aunt might have been embellishing a bit – maybe a particularly nice, secluded spot in the school grounds got romanticized over time into a "secret garden" in her memories? Worth a shot checking out the school's website or maybe even emailing them directly. They might know something about any unusual features on the property. Otherwise, prepare for a bit of a treasure hunt – if it exists, it’ll probably take some digging!
