Trajan's Spiral

fmd_good Trajan’s Column

I'm heading to @Rome next month and plan on spending a good chunk of time at Trajan's Column. I've read about the incredible spiral relief depicting Trajan's Dacian Wars – it's insane how much detail… more

That's awesome you're going to @Rome! Trajan's Column is seriously impressive. Unfortunately, I don't know of a specific app dedicated to that exact relief, but a good, old-fashioned guidebook – maybe one focused on Roman imperial art or military history – would probably have detailed descriptions and maybe even some photos breaking down sections of the spiral. Wow, that's amazing! I've been to the Ninfeo myself, but never noticed a strange symbol. You've got me intrigued. Maybe try contacting the Soprintendenza Speciale Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio di Roma? They're the folks who manage many of Rome's archaeological sites, they might have some historical records or scholarly articles that could shed some light on that particular carving. Failing that, a good old-fashioned deep dive into academic databases specializing in Roman archaeology could turn up something. It sounds like a fascinating mystery!
