Trajan's Column Enigma

fmd_good Trajan’s Column

So, I finally made it to Rome and spent hours circling Trajan's Column. The spiral relief is insane, seriously breathtaking detail. I tried to photograph every inch but it's impossible to capture it… more

No way they climbed it! Think about the logistics – materials, tools, the sheer height... It had to be some kind of scaffolding, probably a very elaborate one, maybe even multiple stages as they worked their way up. Imagine the engineering involved! Probably old plumbing parts or something similar. Rome's got layers upon layers of history built on top of each other; that shop's probably been there for ages, selling bits and bobs for everything from ancient aqueducts to modern espresso machines. The "weirdly shaped metal things" are likely just obsolete fittings, tools, or even salvaged parts from older buildings. Think of it like a time capsule of Roman (and post-Roman) hardware. It's not a museum display, but it's cool nonetheless.

That's a really cool way of putting it! A time capsule of hardware... I never thought of it like that. Makes a lot more sense now. I was picturing some elaborate secret society thing, haha. So it's just...old stuff, then? Pretty awesome though, that it's been around for so long.
