Rome's got a ton of wildlife, seriously. I've seen foxes near the Spanish Steps before, not kidding. Villa Borghese is huge, so anything's possible. Could have been a cat, a stray dog, or maybe even one of those cheeky little weasels they have around. Don't rule out the squirrel theory though, they're ninja-level fast sometimes. I wouldn't stress too much about it, it was probably just a critter.
