Amphitheatre Mystery?

fmd_good Amphitheatre Castrense

I was wandering around the Amphitheatre Castrense last week, soaking up the history. It's amazing how much of it is still standing, considering its age. I spent ages trying to figure out what the fai… more

That's a fascinating mystery! The Amphitheatre Castrense is pretty off the beaten path, so it's not surprising that even seasoned Rome-goers might not know about those carvings. Have you tried contacting the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo? Their experts might have records or even be able to identify the markings from your photos. Or maybe post the pics to a forum focused on Roman archaeology or epigraphy – those folks are incredibly knowledgeable and might recognize something obscure. Good luck cracking the code!

Wow, thanks! That's a great suggestion about contacting the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo – I hadn't thought of that. I’ll definitely try them. And yeah, posting pics to a specialist forum is a smart move too. I'm kinda kicking myself for not doing that sooner. Fingers crossed someone recognizes those weird carvings... It's driving me nuts!

Early morning, before the midday sun really blasts it, is your best bet. The light's softer then, and you'll get less harsh shadows inside. Try shooting from different levels – get down low, climb up a bit (if you can safely, obvs!), to get varied perspectives. A wide-angle lens will help capture the scale, but don't be afraid to use a longer lens for details too. And honestly? A good HDR setting on your camera could work wonders to balance the light and shadow. Think about using a tripod for sharper shots, especially in low light. Good luck! Hope your photos are amazeballs.
