Lateran Palace Secret?

fmd_good Lateran Palace

I'm heading to Rome next month and dying to see the Lateran Palace. My friend, a Roman, told me there's supposedly a hidden chapel or something, not on any official tour. Something super old, maybe… more

Hmm, a secret chapel at the Lateran Palace... Sounds intriguing. My grandmother, bless her soul, used to live near there for years and I never heard anything like that. Most of the "secret" stuff around Rome is usually just... well, heavily guarded by the Vatican or something equally official. I wouldn't hold my breath for pre-Christian stuff unless your friend is pulling a prank. The Lateran area itself has seen a LOT of construction and reconstruction over the centuries. Anything that old would likely be well-documented, even if it's not currently open to the public. That said, Rome is full of unexpected little things. Maybe your friend's exaggerating a bit for dramatic effect. Perhaps it's a lesser-known crypt or something tucked away in a less-visited part of the complex. Definitely worth exploring the whole palace thoroughly, though. Maybe ask around with some of the older locals near the Lateran Basilica – they are usually full of untold stories. Just… don’t be too insistent, you know? Sometimes these things are best left undisturbed. Let me know if you find anything!

Early morning, before the midday sun really blasts it, is your best bet. The light's softer then, and you'll get less harsh shadows inside. Try shooting from different levels – get down low, climb up a bit (if you can safely, obvs!), to get varied perspectives. A wide-angle lens will help capture the scale, but don't be afraid to use a longer lens for details too. And honestly? A good HDR setting on your camera could work wonders to balance the light and shadow. Think about using a tripod for sharper shots, especially in low light. Good luck! Hope your photos are amazeballs.
