Ancient Graffiti?

fmd_good Liceo Classico Statale "Giulio Cesare"

While I can't guarantee anything, it's definitely worth looking into the building's history beyond the conference materials. Check the archives of the city's historical society or maybe even university libraries in @Rome – they might have records detailing renovations or even accidental discoveries during building work. The church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane is gorgeous and relatively quiet, even though it's near the Trevi Fountain. The interior is incredibly ornate, but somehow manages to feel peaceful. Finding peace in Rome takes a little searching, but it's definitely possible.
