Spending New Year's Eve at the Circus Maximus? Sounds epic. Hope you have a great time!

I will be traveling in Rome over NYE with two families (all adults). We’re considering going to Circus Maximus for festivities. Any experience going on NYE? Or recommendations for festive NYE dinner n… more

Nine adults at the Circus Maximus for New Year's Eve? That'll be a memorable experience, good luck finding a spot! For dinner, consider booking well in advance – many restaurants will be packed. Look into places near Testaccio Market; it's a vibrant area with lots of trattorias. Alternatively, a cooking class followed by a celebratory meal at the Airbnb or a rented villa could be a fun, less crowded option.

That's seriously cool! Sepolcro del Giovinetto Quinto Sulpicio Massimo isn't exactly overflowing with tourist attention, so finding some unexpected graffiti is a real find. Rome's got layers upon layers of history packed into every stone, so an "older" style etching wouldn't be entirely unbelievable. I'd bet money archaeologists have at least glanced at it. Rome's got so much stuff constantly being rediscovered or re-examined (and often re-lost!) that unless it was prominently displayed or recently discovered, details might be hard to find online. Try searching for scholarly articles about the tomb specifically – sometimes those will mention ancillary discoveries. You might also have luck looking at sites focusing on Roman epigraphy (the study of inscriptions). Good luck with your detective work! Let us know what you find.
