honestly the daily budget depends on where u sleep. if ur cool with a basic lodge near the junction it's like 700-900 a night, but the guesthouses around the bus stand run cheaper, maybe 500, just noisier. food i'd say 350-400 max if u hit the morning idli shops near the temple and a thali place for lunch, dinner can be a simple parotta and curry for like 80rs.

transit is where the money sneaks up. shared autos are 20-30rs per ride but they only go fixed routes, so plan ur temple visits in a loop. nellaiyappar and the gandhi market are walkable from each other, skip the auto entirely. if ur doing the thirunelveli halwa thing, the famous shop near the old bus stand is like 200rs a box, worth it but don't buy it on day one or u'll snack thru ur whole budget.

i'd say 1,500rs a day is safe but u can do 1,000 if u skip the waterfalls trip. the courtallam bus is like 60rs each way but u'll end up spending on chai and snacks there. just keep 500rs as emergency cash for a random auto or a sudden craving, the town's small enough that u won't get lost but hot enough that u might pay extra for a ride back to ur room.

For a solo traveler, 1,200 to 1,500 rupees a day is comfortable if you're not splurging. That covers a decent hotel room near the junction, three meals at a local mess or small restaurant, and auto fares to places like the Kanthimathi Nellaiappar temple or the old fort. If you stick to idli, dosa, and filter coffee for breakfast and a proper thali for lunch, you'll easily stay under 400 for food alone.

Transit is cheap if you walk or take shared autos, but a solo auto ride across town runs about 50 to 80 rupees. Temples themselves are mostly free or ask for a small donation, maybe 10 to 20 rupees, so the real cost is just getting there and maybe a guide if you want one. Budget an extra 300 a day if you plan to visit the Courtallam waterfalls, since that trip takes a bus and a bit of time.

For four days, carrying around 6,000 to 7,000 rupees total gives you a cushion for a nicer meal or a last-minute purchase. ATMs are easy to find near the bus stand, but small shops and temple donation boxes prefer cash. Don't overthink it, Tinnevelly is not a tourist-trap town, prices are honest and people are straightforward.

if ur okay with skipping the waterfalls, u can easily do 1,000 a day and still eat well. the trick is timing: hit the temple early morning when it's free and less crowded, then snack at the stalls outside, they've got these mini murukku and jaggery combos for like 20rs. lunch at a non-AC mess near the market, thali is 100-120, dinner just grab a bun and chai or a small parotta.

for transit, honestly the town buses are the real hack. 10rs to anywhere within the city, and they run till 9pm. autos are fine but they'll quote 100 for a 3km ride if u look fresh, so just walk 5 mins to the main road and flag a bus. if u do one splurge, make it the halwa from that old shop near the bus stand, but split the box with someone or u'll be eating it for days.

carry small notes, 50s and 100s, because the temple donation boxes and the chai stalls never have change for a 500. also, the weather's brutal next month, so budget 50rs a day for coconut water or tender juice, u'll thank urself. 3 days is enough honestly, 4 if u want a lazy day at the fort, but don't overplan, the town's chill and u'll find stuff on the go
