Salem neighborhood advice for a visit in 5 months?

I'm planning a trip to Salem in about 5 months and trying to figure out which neighborhood to stay in. Any tips on where's good for first-timers? I'm planning a trip to Salem in about 5 months and trying to figure out which neighborhood to stay in. Any tips on where's good for first-timers?

honestly, if you're okay with a little walk, check out the area around Willows Park. it's quieter than downtown and you get to see the Willows pier and the old arcade which is super charming. plus you can walk along the water to get to the House of Seven Gables in like 15 minutes. parking is way easier there too if you're driving, which is a serious perk in October.

Salem's pretty compact, so you'll be fine in most spots, but I'd aim for downtown near the pedestrian mall if it's your first time. That puts you walking distance to the witch trial memorial, the House of the Seven Gables, and the Peabody Essex Museum. The Derby Street area gets busy with tourists, but it's where most of the history and restaurants are, so you won't waste time driving or parking. Just book early, because places fill up fast even five months out.

i'd actually suggest looking near Collins Cove if you want a mix of quiet and walkability. it's a residential street but you can get to the downtown core in under 10 minutes on foot, and the cove itself is a nice spot to watch the sunrise with coffee. plus you're close to Turner's Seafood on Derby Street which has a solid lobster roll without the tourist markup
