Pre-booked cab is definitely the way to go, especially during peak hours. The traffic in Mumbai is... legendary. Hours isn't an exaggeration. The metro might get you to the airport area, but then you still have to navigate the last leg, and that's where things get hairy. A pre-booked cab at least means someone else is dealing with the madness while you relax (relatively speaking). Might cost a bit more, but your sanity is priceless, trust me. Just make sure you book it well in advance and double check the driver's contact info.

Download Google Maps offline map of the area before you go. Seriously. That's your best bet. Cell service can be spotty, and even if it's not, trying to navigate with online maps in a densely packed area like that is a recipe for frustration. Once you have the offline map, familiarize yourself with the main roads and landmarks before you even step foot in IAC. Knowing a couple of key reference points will make a huge difference. Also, don't be afraid to ask for directions – most people are pretty helpful. Just be polite and smile. You'll be fine. Just... download that offline map.
