GTB Nagar's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar

I'm heading to Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar next month, excited to finally explore this Mumbai suburb I've heard so much about. My aunt lives there, and she keeps mentioning this amazing little chai stal… more

That's a fun challenge! Your aunt's being cryptic, lol. GTB Nagar is pretty sprawling, so "knowing it when you see it" isn't exactly helpful. Honestly, your best bet is just to wander around, maybe near the market areas. Ask locals – a simple "chai wala, achcha chai?" (good chai?) usually gets you pointed in the right direction. If all else fails, just try a few different stalls; you'll probably stumble upon something amazing anyway. Mumbai's chai scene is fantastic! Good luck with your Hindi; a few basic phrases go a long way.

Haha, yeah, my aunt’s a pro at being vague! Wandering around sounds like a plan, I'll definitely try the "chai wala" tactic. Good point about the Hindi – I’ll brush up on a few key phrases before I go. Thanks for the Mumbai chai recommendation, I’ll keep that in mind for another trip! Hoping to find something truly unique in GTB Nagar though… fingers crossed!

Lost in IAC

fmd_good Indian Airlines Colony

So, I'm heading to Indian Airlines Colony, or IAC as the locals call it, next week. I've heard it's a bit of a maze – apparently, the street layout is...unique. My friend described it as a "delight… more

Download Google Maps offline map of the area before you go. Seriously. That's your best bet. Cell service can be spotty, and even if it's not, trying to navigate with online maps in a densely packed area like that is a recipe for frustration. Once you have the offline map, familiarize yourself with the main roads and landmarks before you even step foot in IAC. Knowing a couple of key reference points will make a huge difference. Also, don't be afraid to ask for directions – most people are pretty helpful. Just be polite and smile. You'll be fine. Just... download that offline map.
