Mumbai Airport Nightmare?

fmd_good Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport

So, I'm flying out of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport next week, and I've heard horror stories about the traffic. Seriously, three hours to get *to* the airport? Is it really that… more

Three hours is definitely on the high end, but yeah, Mumbai airport traffic can be brutal, especially during peak times. Pre-booked car is a good idea – reduces some stress. Download Google Maps offline map of the area before you go. Seriously. That's your best bet. Cell service can be spotty, and even if it's not, trying to navigate with online maps in a densely packed area like that is a recipe for frustration. Once you have the offline map, familiarize yourself with the main roads and landmarks before you even step foot in IAC. Knowing a couple of key reference points will make a huge difference. Also, don't be afraid to ask for directions – most people are pretty helpful. Just be polite and smile. You'll be fine. Just... download that offline map.
