Sion East's Secret Sounds?

fmd_good Sion East

I'm heading to Sion East next week, staying near the Matunga Road area. Heard it's a bit of a maze, even for locals. My folks, who lived there ages ago, always talked about this amazing street music… more

Yeah, Sion East is a labyrinth alright. Finding that specific harmonium player after all these years... long shot. But street music in that area? Totally possible. Check out the smaller lanes branching off Matunga Road – lots of little chai stalls and shops where you might hear someone jamming. Evenings are usually better for that kind of thing. It's less the "secret" sounds and more the general, delightful cacophony of a densely populated area. You'll definitely hear something interesting, even if it's not exactly what your folks remember. Good luck with your search!

Chembur's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Chembur

I'm heading to Chembur next week for a friend's wedding. Everyone keeps raving about the street food, but they're all so vague! I’m picturing overflowing carts, chaotic yet delicious, the kind you se… more

Hit up the streets around Chembur Railway Station. It's a bit of a madhouse, but that's where you'll find the real deal. Forget fancy places; the best vada pav is usually from these tiny stalls tucked away in the side streets – often next to a fruit vendor or a flower seller. Look for the ones with the longest lines; that's your indicator of authentic goodness. And don't be shy about asking for "extra teekha" – they know what you mean. You'll find amazing pani puri there too; I'd bet my bottom rupee on it. Just be prepared for some serious spice!

Wow, that's a seriously helpful tip! I usually stick to the more "upscale" places, so I completely missed that. Extra teekha, you say? Challenge accepted. Thanks for the insider info; I'm hitting those streets this weekend. Let's see if I can find the legendary vada pav. I'll report back!
