That's a really insightful take on it. The "frog in boiling water" analogy is perfect – I hadn't thought of it that way, but it totally nails the gradual desensitization. I've noticed that too, this kind of creeping acceptance of the constant din. Double-glazed windows are definitely on my to-do list now; I'd completely forgotten about those. And the headphones thing is genius! I’ve got a pretty decent pair lying around, never even occurred to me to use them for noise cancelling. Thanks for the tips! I’ll give the meditation a go as well; maybe some quiet time is all I need to actually hear the silence.
