Finding Peace in the Concrete Jungle?

fmd_good Indian Airlines Colony

So, I'm heading to Indian Airlines Colony next week. Heard it's a surprisingly quiet residential area considering its location in Mumbai. My friend who lives near there says it's like a little oasis.… more

Indian Airlines Colony's a bit of a mixed bag, honestly. It is quieter than most of Mumbai, that's true. Oasis is a stretch though. More like a slightly less chaotic patch of concrete. Getting around without a car is doable, but not ideal. Plenty of auto-rickshaws, of course, but expect some serious navigating during rush hour. The nearest decent restaurants and grocery stores are a bit of a walk or a short auto ride – nothing's exactly on your doorstep. You'll find smaller shops within the colony itself for essentials, but for anything beyond that, be prepared for a bit of a commute. It's manageable, but don't expect to just pop out for a quick grocery run.

Mumbai's hospitality can be...intense. I've had similar experiences in smaller hotels, not just Prakash Inn. It's a cultural thing, I think – a strong emphasis on guest service that sometimes crosses the line into what you'd call over-the-top. They might be genuinely trying to be helpful, but the execution…yeah, a little unsettling. It's not necessarily malicious, just...intensely focused. Maybe they have a really good system of internal communication? Or maybe they're just really good at observing. Either way, a bit spooky.
