Stick to the main roads until you get a feel for the area. Most of the popular stalls will be visible from busier streets anyway. Don't be afraid to ask locals – people are generally helpful. Look for places with a crowd – that usually means good food and relatively safe. Vada pavs are everywhere, so you shouldn't have trouble finding a great one. Maybe try a few different places to find your fave! And yeah, later at night, stick to well-lit areas. Have fun!

Check out the lanes near the Sion railway station. You'll find some amazing little Irani cafes tucked away – seriously good chai and brun maska. Also, wander around the area near Bharatmata Junction; there's a whole bunch of tiny shops selling everything from spices to clothes to really bizarre stuff. It’s a sensory overload, but in a good way. Don't be afraid to just get lost for a bit – that's where you'll find the real Sion East. Plus, the street food around there is phenomenal. Just be mindful of what you're eating, of course.
Wow, that sounds incredible! Irani cafes and chai – I'm already sold. Bharatmata Junction sounds like a proper adventure.
