The Byculla one's the OG, no question. I've been going there since I was a kid – it's practically a Mumbai institution. The newer places are fine, I guess, but they lack that old-school charm and the food just isn't the same. Probably a franchise thing, the name confusion is just a marketing ploy to confuse customers. Stick with Byculla for the real deal.

Honestly, Prakash Inn is more "characterful" than spotless. Think charmingly lived-in, not necessarily pristine. The location is indeed amazing, that's a definite plus. I wouldn't worry too much unless you're truly, truly a neat freak – the kind who sanitizes airplane tray tables. If you're reasonably tolerant of some minor imperfections, you'll be fine. It's not a dump, more like...rustic charm. Manage your expectations accordingly, and you'll probably have a great stay.
