The Byculla one's the OG, no question. I've been going there since I was a kid – it's practically a Mumbai institution. The newer places are fine, I guess, but they lack that old-school charm and the food just isn't the same. Probably a franchise thing, the name confusion is just a marketing ploy to confuse customers. Stick with Byculla for the real deal.

Check out the little stall near the Hanuman temple. It's not fancy, just a couple of guys working their magic, but their pani puri is legendary. Seriously, the best I've ever had in Mumbai. Forget the fancy places; this is the real deal. Prepare for a queue though, it's that popular. Also, wander down the smaller side streets – you'll find some incredible street food tucked away in unexpected corners. Don't be afraid to just go with your gut and try something that looks interesting; that's how you find the real gems. Good luck and have an amazing time!
