What to eat in Davangere next month?

I'm heading to Davangere next month and I'm all about the food. What are the must-try dishes or spots I shouldn't miss? I'm heading to Davangere next month and I'm all about the food. What are the must-try dishes or spots I shouldn't miss?

If you're heading to Davangere next month, the monsoon weather makes it perfect for something warm and fried. Seek out the kempu avarekai bajji at any roadside vendor near the old bus stand, it's a seasonal red field bean fritter that shows up around this time. Pair it with a cutting chai from the stall right next to it, the contrast is excellent. Also, don't skip the obbattu from a small shop called Mylarappa Sweet Mart on B H Road, it's thinner and crispier than most holige you'll find elsewhere.

Don't overlook the jolada rotti scene here. It's a sorghum flatbread that most tourists skip because they're too focused on the benne dose. Head to Raghvendra Bhavan on MCC B Block around lunchtime and grab it with their ennegai, which is brinjal cooked in a spicy peanut and sesame gravy. The combo is messy but worth it. Also, if you have a sweet tooth, pick up some holige from a shop like Sri Krishna Sweets on the way out, it's a stuffed flatbread with chana dal and jaggery that travels well.

You're in for a treat. The obvious starting point is Davangere benne dose, and the best place for it is the original Sri Guru Kottureshwara Benne Dose Hotel near the bus stand. They serve it with a generous slab of butter and a side of coconut chutney that's just right. For something less expected, try the akki rotti from a local mess like Shivaji Military Hotel on P B Road, it's a thin rice flatbread that pairs well with their spicy chicken curry.
