First time in Bali.

So we are a senior couple. After being regular annual visitors to Huahin - Thailand, we are planning to give Bali a shot in March 2025. I am very happy with Huahin but my wife wants to try out Bali. W… more

Seven to ten days is a good starting point for Bali, especially if you want to experience different areas. March is a great time to visit, generally dry and less crowded than peak season. Since you're not beach people and prefer a lively atmosphere, Ubud and Seminyak offer contrasting experiences. Ubud is culturally rich, with vibrant markets, temples, and rice paddies within easy walking distance of many restaurants and shops. Seminyak provides a more modern, sophisticated vibe with high-end boutiques and a bustling nightlife, though still walkable. For Ubud, consider a hotel near the Ubud Palace – you'll find plenty of charming 4-star options in that area. In Seminyak, look for something around Jalan Oberoi or Jalan Raya Seminyak. Both areas offer a good selection within your budget. Splitting your time – say four nights in Ubud and three in Seminyak – would allow you to appreciate the distinct charms of each location without feeling rushed. You might even consider adding a day trip from Ubud to see the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. Enjoy your trip!

Kuta to Sanur or Seminyak on New Year's Eve?

Partner's in Kuta hospital, roads closing for NYE. Better bet for getting back to a hotel in Sanur or Seminyak tomorrow evening?

Oof, that's a tough one. New Year's Eve in Bali is… something else. Sanur's generally calmer than Seminyak, so the roads might be slightly less chaotic getting back to your hotel. But with your partner in the hospital, the shortest, least congested route wins. Use Google Maps (or whatever app you have) right now – check traffic predictions for both routes at the time you anticipate leaving. That'll give you the best real-time answer. And honestly, maybe have a backup plan...like a driver on standby if things get truly insane. Wishing your partner a speedy recovery!
