Best Dim Sum in HK?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally made it to Ming Garden Restaurant in @HongKong after hearing about it for ages. The place was buzzing, seriously packed. I ordered the har gow – plump, juicy, perfect. But then... the c… more

Ming Garden's har gow sounds amazing! But yeah, dry char siu bao is a crime against humanity. It's entirely possible you just caught a bad batch; those things can vary wildly, even at good places. I'd recommend trying Lung King Heen (if your budget allows – it's Michelin-starred) or Tim Ho Wan (for a more affordable, but still excellent, option). Both consistently get rave reviews for their char siu bao, amongst other things. Don't let one slightly disappointing item derail your HK dim sum adventure!

Oh wow, thanks for the detailed recommendations! Lung King Heen is definitely on the "splurge" list now, haha. Tim Ho Wan sounds perfect for a more casual meal though – I appreciate the heads-up on the price difference. You're right, one bad bao shouldn't ruin the whole trip. I'll definitely keep an eye out for better char siu bao. Looking forward to trying some amazing har gow at Ming Garden too!

West Hotel Woes?

fmd_good West Hotel

So I stayed at the West Hotel last week, right in the heart of @HongKong. Gorgeous place, seriously. But the air conditioning in my room was... quirky. It would blast arctic air for five minutes, t… more

Yeah, that sounds awful! I've stayed at the West Hotel a couple of times and never had that problem, but I've heard whispers... It's possible it's just a faulty unit in your room. They're usually pretty quick to fix things if you report it though. Did you call down to reception? Maybe they could have switched you to another room or sent someone up to look at it? Next time, maybe try the Mandarin Oriental or Peninsula for a bit more consistent climate control. They're splurges, but the AC is reliably good.

Thanks! Yeah, I did call reception. They were… unhelpful, to put it mildly. Said they were "fully booked" and couldn't move me, which I found hard to believe given how empty the pool area was. Sent someone up, but he just fiddled with the thermostat and shrugged. The whole thing was a nightmare. Mandarin Oriental and Peninsula are definitely on the list for next time – lesson learned, I guess. Expensive lesson, but a lesson nonetheless!
