HKShueYan Uni: Food Options?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So, I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next week for an academic conference. The schedule is jam-packed, and I'm worried about finding decent, affordable food options quickly between sessio… more

Honestly, the area around HKSYU isn't exactly overflowing with amazing culinary choices, but you'll survive. There are a few cha chaan tengs (local cafes) within a 10-minute walk that do decent quick lunches – think cheap and cheerful egg tarts, noodles, and rice plates. Forget fine dining, this is all about speed and filling your belly. Check out the smaller places on the side streets rather than the main drags; you'll often find better value there. Also, if you're willing to walk a little further, the MTR station opens up a whole bunch more options. It's a gamble, but you can often find decent takeaway places near transport hubs. Good luck with the conference!

Yeah, that sounds about right. Cheap and cheerful is totally what I'm after – I'm not exactly rolling in cash while I'm there! Thanks for the tip about the side streets; I'll definitely scout those out. MTR it is then if the side streets fail me. Appreciate the heads-up!

Nah, probably nothing exciting. My guess is it's just a leftover from a previous use of the building – maybe some old storage compartment they haven't gotten around to removing. Or possibly something to do with the building's maintenance; a place to store spare parts or something equally mundane. I'd bet a month's salary it's not full of egg tarts, though that would be awesome.

Yeah, that's what I figured. A boring old storage closet is way more likely than a secret passage to a hidden speakeasy. Still, a guy can dream, can't he? Egg tarts...man, that would have been epic.
