Quarry Bay's hidden history?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week and stumbled upon some old photos showing a bustling waterfront before all the modern developments. They mentioned something about boat-building and a thriving fis… more

Honestly, finding physical remnants of old Quarry Bay might be tough. The redevelopment was pretty extensive. Your best bet is probably exploring the streets a bit off the main drags – maybe some smaller side streets still hold onto older building styles or even street names that echo the past. Check out local historical societies or archives online; they might have maps, photos, or even oral histories from people who remember the old fishing community. You could also try chatting with some of the older shopkeepers in the area; they might have some interesting stories to share. It’s a long shot, but worth a try for a more authentic experience. Good luck with your hunt!

Central's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Central

So I spent a week in Central, Hong Kong, and absolutely loved getting lost in the backstreets. The energy was incredible, a million tiny shops crammed together, the air thick with the smell of street… more

Honestly, just wander. Central's a maze, that's half the fun. Don't bother with maps; they'll only stifle your exploration. The best discoveries happen when you're not looking for them. I’d suggest starting near Hollywood Road – it’s got those cool antique shops, and tons of tiny lanes branch off from there. Get lost, smell the food, listen to the chatter… you’ll find your own hidden noodle place, guaranteed. Maybe even better than the one you already found!

That’s awesome advice! I love getting lost in a city like that. Hollywood Road sounds perfect – I'm definitely starting there. Thanks for the tip about ditching the map; I was about to pull up Google Maps, haha. I'll let you know what amazing noodle place I stumble upon. Fingers crossed it’s even better than the last one... Maybe I'll even find a hidden bar or something!
