Wow, that's a really interesting perspective! I hadn't even considered the folklore angle. I'll definitely try asking around – maybe the old folks at the market near the playground know something. A local history society is a great idea too; hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the suggestions! This whole thing is so bizarre, I'm almost hoping it turns out to be something truly wild and unexpected. I'll keep you posted on what I find out!
